Withering

The Orchard ODEs #9 of 12

September 2016 – Sebastopol, CA

This is the season where the dead branch and the green branch are the same branch. Rumi’s words, not mine.

We live in the age of electric mirrors where portraits are the currency of proof. If we stand before the world we can stand before ourselves. And this is courage. Never before in the history of humanity have we had to stand so persistently naked. Our faces haunt the glowing portals of our times. We no longer need to be present to be seen. This is our communion. Through the image we are joined.

We’ve transitioned into Autumn; we’re withering at the edges, we’re turning colors. The leaves of us will die. But it means nothing, these ephemeral forms. Sunlight does not prove who we are.
